About Woodturnedtoart

In my opinion all wood is beautiful if only that beauty can be brought out. Wood has a random character that can not be duplicated by anything manmade. I try to expose and highlight that beauty in each of my pieces. After retiring from the State of Texas I explored a variety of interests for several years. Intrigued by some wood turnings seen at a wood carving show, and believing that everyone regardless of talent needs an outlet to express their artistic inclinations, I took a class at Woodcrafters in Austin, Texas in 2009. There I made a birdhouse and a lasting connection with woodturning and the woodturning community. Shortly thereafter I bought a lathe and set it up in a rented storage room in a Port Aransas RV park. There I made bowls and spindles and many mentoring contacts in the coastal bend area as my abilities improved. When we gave up the traveling lifestyle and returned to our home, I built a small shop and bought a better lathe. Now the hobby has become a full-time occupation that fills most days with learning and creating something pretty. I particularly enjoy custom orders for things I have never made before. I am a member of the Coastal Bend Woodturners Association and the Central Texas Woodturners Association. View all posts by Woodturnedtoart
